Throughout this week in media, we have been working on analysing a trailer of a horror film. The film I chose was Silent Hill, in this analysis we had to dissect all contents of the technical areas:
mise en scene
sound
editing
camera angles/shots.
This allowed me to be able to see the different conventions of a horror film and to see if there are any parts that challenge the conventions. Doing this exercise also helps me be able to see what I want to do when filming my own trailer and how to make it effective and professional. On our Fridays lesson however, we have changed tasks to now analysing film posters of horror films. In this task we again have to talk about the technical areas, representation, direct address, effectiveness, texture, main image, tagline etc. All of this has been done in extreme detail which we will also be working on next week.
